I have lived through my first chinese new year away from home. It wasn’t that big a deal, seeing as I never did celebrate CNY properly when I was in Singapore anyway. Mostly we’ll just go see my grandparents on both sides and then go watch a movie. I remember watching spiderman and music and lyrics during chinese new year. But strangely enough, I’ve actually done more stuff while in the UK.
Like on Saturday I went down to London with a few friends and saw Chinatown. London’s Chinatown beats the one in Singapore any day. Or maybe I was just feeling the novelty of seeing Yeo’s chrysanthamum tea and kueh lapis being sold in England. Anyway, if you’re ever in London, you have to go to this chinese restaurant called the Four Seasons. The roast duck and char siew that they do is absolutely fantastic.
And on Monday I had an 8 course dinner at Charlie Chan’s sponsored by Jardine. 8 full sized courses!!! We all took doggie bags home, and it was all really good. The odd thing was the Peking duck though. THey served the meat and the skin together on a plate..sor of shredded up but also half on the bone. And from the amount on the plate, it was either three ducks or a cassowary. I sat next to the master of magdalene, It wasn’t as scary as it sounds. He was quite nice, asked lots of questions, told jokes. And I’ve been inside the master’s lodge at Peterhouse. Yay!
Ok, must stop now. Have to go off and read about kinship.
oh jules! that sounds like great fun! (: i missssssssss you!!!
